THERE’S NO QUESTION THE IOWA MEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM HAS HAD IT’S STRUGGLES THE PAST FEW YEARS.   THE HAWKEYES STARTED THE YEAR HOT, GOING FOUR AND OH. RECENTLY THE SOLID PLAY HAS DIMINISHED, AND THE PAST FEW GAMES HAVE SHOWN THIS TEAM HAS IT’S FAIR SHARE OF STRUGGLES.

THE BIG TEN ACC CHALLENGE WAS THE DAGGER THAT PROVED THE IOWA MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM PLAY NEEDS WORK.
IOWA COULD’VE USED THE DEFENSIVE BRAIN OF NORM PARKER, AND THE OFFENSIVE SKILLS OF FORMER STANDOUT ADAM HALUSKA, TWO FAMILIAR HAWKEYE SPORTS FACES WHO IRONICALLY HAPPENED TO BE IN THE CROWD.

THE BLACK AND GOLD HAVE SHOWED SUCCESS IN THE OPENING MINUTES OF PLAY. CONFIDENT PLAY SHOWS WHEN IOWA HAS A LEAD, AND PROVES ITHE HAWKEYES CAN PLAY WITH THE REST OF THEM, BY SCORING QUICK AND EASY IN THE PAINT OFTEN EARLY ON.
HOWEVER, ONCE THE OPPONENT FIGHTS BACK AND TAKES A SMALL LEAD, THAT LEAD SEEMS TO BE THE TURNING POINT WHERE IOWA LOSES CONFIDENCE AND INCONSI STENT PLAY BEGINS.

DEFENSE HAS SHOWN TO BE ONE OF THE HAWKEYES’ BIGGEST STRUGGLES.
FOR EXAMPLE CLEMSON MADE OVER FIFTY PERCENT OF THEIR SHOTS AGAINST THE IOWA DEFENSE. THE TIGERS WERE ABLE TO ATTEMPT TWENTY ONE THREE POINT BASKETS, SINKING ELEVEN OF THEM.

MORE STRUGGLES OF THE BLACK AND GOLD SQUAD SHOWED WHEN THE TIGERS BROKE IOWA’S PRESS DEFENSE WITH EASE ALL NIGHT.
HEAD COACH FRAN MCCAFFREY IS CONFIDENT AS THE SEASON GOES ON, THE HAWKEYES WILL IMPROVE, EVEN THE RECORD DOESN’T SHOW IT.

SOT

WE ARE BETTER THAN WE’RE PLAYING RIGHT NOW, AND WE’LL GET IT FIGURED OUT. AND YOU ALWAYS LOOK BACK AND SAY BOY IT WOULD’VE BEEN NICE IF WE HAD A COUPLE MORE WINS, YEAH IT WOULD’VE BEEN, BUT WE DIDN’T.  OKAY WHAT DO WE HAVE TO DO, TO GET THIS TEAM GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, THAT’S WHAT WE’RE GONNA DO.

VO

THE SHAKY PLAY OF THE VETERANS HAS LED TO TIME ON THE PINE, A MESSAGE FROM MCCAFFREY TO STEP UP.
